Friendship Poem †poetry

Friendship Poem – poetry Free Online Research Papers Friendship Poem poetry I think i found a friend, who will be there till the end. Who seemd to turn my life around, who picks me up when i am down. I never thought such a friend existed, where your feelings arnt restricted. Where you can say how much you care and that you will always be there. When no matter what happens you always know, your friendship will always grow. How nothing can tear you two apart and every word comes from the heart. I thought a friend like this came only in your dreams but thats not the way it seems. Its hard to believe but believe it or not, this is something ive actually got. Someone who never gave up on you and enourages whatever you do. Where their faith in you is always strong, even if its right or wrong. People spend their lives taking every risk, to find a friendship as strong as this. I cant believe in such a short time, i have already found mine. If you cry i cry thats the way it goes, how close we are nobody knows. Well still be close when were old and grey, still talk to eachother everyday. I cant imagine life with out you for a while coz id miss everything about you even your smile. I feel so alone when you are not here, coz to me your someone very dear. This is something no one could replace, not even that smile upon my face. You mean so much i just cant explain, how youve taken away so much pain. You made my world the best it could be, just by saying you love me. I know you feel the same as i do you, only because our friendship is something very true. Obesity and Diabetes ( Obesity is known to cause diabetes Essay

Obesity and Diabetes ( Obesity is known to cause diabetes - Essay Example Lichtarowicz [2004] studies that â€Å"More than 22 million children under five years old are obese or overweight, not only from affluent countries. Over 17 million of them are in the developing world. Each one of these children is at a much higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes†. To make the statement stronger the link that exists between type ii diabetes and obesity has been proved strappingly by genetist James Neel in 1962 says Marchand [2006]. In a research conducted by NIDDK, the already existing fact was proved that 95% of the Prima Indians with diabetes are found to be obese. They applied the â€Å"thrifty gene† theory of James Neel to investigate and realize the link that existed between diabetes and obesity. With the help of the theory NIDDK found out the fact that Prima Indians were habituated towards eating plenty of food with fat content, and hence resulted in obesity as a genetic problem which further ended up in diabetes for many who engaged in less physical activities. The U.S.Center for Disease Control has observed, â€Å"Occurrences of Obesity and diabetes increased in the United States between 2000 and 2001†. Their study helped in identifying the connection between overweight and obesity with diseases like diabetes, blood pressure, arthritis etc. The U.S. Center for Disease Control say that â€Å"those with a body mass index of 40 or higher had an increased risk of being diagnosed with diabetes (7.37 times greater)†. The connection between obesity and diabetes is that, if a body gathers more weight in terms of fat and if it does not involve in physical activities results in body maintaining the excess weight. Thus, â€Å"being overweight is one of the main risk factors for type ii diabetes. The more fatty issues you have, the more resistant your cells become top your insulin† reports Mayo Clinic [2006]. Maintaining the glucose level by eating food items with less fat

The pyramid Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

The pyramid - Essay Example raftsmen talent on exemplary basis having a perfect architectural structure and several theories exist with regard to its constructional methodology and purpose. The pyramid was built around 4500 years ago by the Egyptians for Pharaoh Khufu as his tomb. If looked at from an engineers perspective, the design, accuracy and crafting of its structure matches the modern day structures that exist in todays world. The placement of rocks that give it a triangular design are within tiny fractions of degree and so the largest structure not only reflects history but past society engineering methods2. The structure of the pyramid consists of approximately 2-3 million blocks of granite, which weigh two and a half tons. The total weight of the entire set of graphite rocks used would be approximately six million tons. The Great Pyramid is an epitome of a mixture of different branches of science that include geometry, the value of pi and astronomy. This makes it one of the highlighted wonders of the world. The slides are so aligned and precise that they give the entire structure a relationship with the moon, sun and the stars in the sky. The pyramid over th is period of time has seen disturbances geologically that have made an impact on its structural accuracy. If these are excluded, it is believed that the entire structure would have been more accurate in its integrity 3. There are several theories that revolve around the construction of the Great Pyramid. Science is still figuring out how huge heavy stones were taken to the top and placed with such precision to make the great structure. It is believed that the rocks were aligned in the structure with the help of a series of wooden staves in a parallel fashion that were placed at right angles and moved in the motion. More rocks were taken to the top with the help of placing them on wooden sledges4. The labor force used in building the Great Pyramid is also a mystery. One theory highlights that the slaves were made to work until

The words context Essay Example for Free

The words context Essay When addressing this question its important that I explain what I understand by the words context and truth. My view of the word context is something (such as time or setting) that surrounds a particular event and that can alter its meaning. Truth is what happened in reality. There are two types of truth.  The first one is my truth: its what I believe its true. For example I might say that if we laugh a lot throughout the day well sleep better. That is my truth only, since someone else might not believe that. Whether or not the rest of the people believe this, the truth will always be mine. In this case I think that context does not influence what I believe in; therefore in this case context doesnt affect truth. The second type of truth is universal truth. This is the truth that everyone in the world believes in. In my opinion there are few if none universal truths since not everyone agrees on something and these truths all depend on the context. For example consider this statement. 10 out of 10 people die. According to scientists that statement is true to them. Its thought to be a universal truth. However in the world there will be someone who believes that we dont die. Maybe even in some region on Earth various people believe that we never die. We also have to take into account the period that the statement was written in. Maybe in the next centuries with advances in medicine, people will live forever therefore if this statement was written in that time it would be completely false! As we can see time is a very important aspect when stating if something is true. The most famous examples of this is the fact that people in the 15th century believed that the world was flat, it was the truth, due to the fact that the sea was flat and after a certain distance boats would suddenly disappear, and they also believed that the sun orbited around the Earth. Galileo and Copernicus with more information later proved that the Earth orbited around the sun but still some people disagree with both these scientists. Here we can see how peoples perception of truth about something changes with new information. Well theres something which is always or should always be true. That is the law. Consider this: if the law says: If you murder someone youll be sentenced to death the truth is If you murder someone youll be sentenced to death and most people will argue for this law. What if you kill someone in self-defense? Youre still murdering someone. In this case you will not be sentenced to death since the context has changed the truth of what happened. As we can see theres no real truth not even in the laws of a country. What about in History? In History theres no real truth since in my opinion in this subject context is all. But if theres no truth then there shouldnt be History, there should only be various myths and stories told by the conquerors of the various nations and continents. How many times have we listened to the same story but told by various different people? Then how do we know which one is telling the truth? People have different perceptions of things therefore each one of them has their own truth. A single truth for everyone doesnt exist. Consider this for example: Im at school and Im playing around with some friends and I punch one of them. At that instance a teacher sees me punching him. The truth according to her is that I was fighting and I punched him. The truth according to me is that I was playing with him and accidentally punched him. We have to look at the context behind what happened to establish a truth. As well as in History, in Literature context is also very important to establish what happened. When analyzing a literature work its important to focus on things such as where its set and in what period its set in order to understand why some of those things happened. If were reading a book that focus on racism in the south USA we have to take into account that its set in 1950 where racism was a big issue in the USA. Of course that most things that happen during the story wont be true to nowadays and we also have to take into account that probably those racist events wouldnt have happened in a country like Portugal. On the other hand if we move from literature to numbers, logically 2 plus 2 will always equal 4 and 2 times 2 will always equal 4 as well, in any part of the world at any period during time no matter what the context is. Not reallyIt depends on what youre talking about, the context. Consider this for example: (In Physics 20C=293K and 40C =313K). If today I have 20 (apples) and tomorrow I have 40 (apples) then tomorrow Ill have twice as many (apples). If the temperature yesterday was 20 (C) and the temperature today is 40 (C) the temperature is not twice as more since 313K is not twice 293K. As we can see its important to look at the context and see what were talking about! After thoroughly thinking about this issue Ive reached some very interesting conclusions. In general context is all theres no doubt about that, which means theres no truth, which in turn means that History shouldnt exist and it also means that 20 x 2 does not equal 40. However that doesnt apply to my personal truth of some things in life since I believe that my truth is not always affected by the context.

Macbeth: Pre-determined Destiny Essay -- essays research papers

Macbeth Pre-determined Destiny? Macbeth was a victim of a vicious human flaw. Ambition. It can be great in small dosages, but when one takes what one believes to be ones destiny, as shown in Macbeth, it can be the downfall. Macbeth was a Noble man worthy of Respect, then the prophecies came, and then there was his wife. "Brave and Bold Macbeth (well he deserves that name)" the very words of the king that Macbeth so faithfully served. Never once thinking of murder. But then he receives the Prophecy "Hail Macbeth Thane of Glamis!" "Hail Macbeth Thane of Cawdor!" and "Hail Macbeth king hereafter!". This plants the seed of evil in Macbeth's mind. In fact, one of the first thoughts he has is of Murder. When he returns home, his wife he had already informed; she was sure, that he was "too full of the milk of human kindness" or too feminine to do what was necessary. She convinces him of murder, but Macbeth still is too kind, and tries to pull out, but she simply appeals to his warrior side, and convinces him of it. The three Weird sisters. Instigators, antagonists. Had it not been for them Macbeth may have lived his entire life never even being king. They appear to Macbeth and Banquo. Telling Macbeth, that he shall be king, and telling Banquo, that his heirs shall be kings, but not he. This leads to Macbeth killing Banquo, and trying to kill his son. The witches had not determined Macbeth's fate. But ...

The Handsomest Drowned Man Close Reading Essay

Sha-Dasha Poe November 12, 2012 2nd Period Close Reading Essay Digging deep within The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World Gabriel Garcia Marquez intoduction of â€Å"The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World† already questions the story just from the thought of the title. How can a drowned man be handsome is the main question. The title of the story itself portrays imagery, allegory and imagery. This handsome drowned man is the main character of this whole story. To start with, this story is full of sea imagery. The story starts off with children playing on a beach and notices something floating about in the sea. When the object eventually floats upun the shore, the children immediately starts to play with it. The object is described as a whale, a ship, and then a nasty sea monster. When Estebans body floated upon shore they removed the seaweed, jelly fish tentacles, and the remains of fish. We were told that he had the smell of the sea about him. The women of the town used a sa il to make him a shirt. The women also stated that if he were alive â€Å"he would have had so much authority that he could have drawn fish out of the sea by simply calling their names†. Later within the story, the women imagine â€Å"his soft pink sea lion hands† as he â€Å"stretched out like a sprem whale†. This drowned man is clearly known as an object of the sea. He comes from the sea in the beginning and eventually ends up back in the sea. The relationship of the drowned man to the sea initiates his role as a supernatural mythical creature that didn’t belong on earth as a human being.Furthermore, the author then goes to use allegory to represent the drowned man in comparison to something or someone else. The drowned man represents numerous mythical creatures and historical figures. First, the women of the village name him Esteban. At this very moment, Marquez has grabbed the readers attention as to who Esteban is and how did the villagers come about with this name. Esteban is another name for Estevanico which means a slave from the 1500’s who was suppose to be the first man born in africa to ever step foot in the mericas. Esteban became legendary in Latin America and was given a list of incredible skills. Marquez also stated that the younger women hoped that the drowned man was Lautaro. Lautaro was a military leader of the Native Americans. The handsomness and masculinaty of the drowned man inspires the young women that he is Lautaro. The representation of Esteban and Lautaro shows a hidden message of leaders in comparison to the drowned man. The author also used historical leaders to illustrate the meaning of the drowned man. Also, the author describes the town in the beginning as â€Å"twenty odd wooden houses that had stone courtyards with no flowers†. Throughout the story the women imagined that if the drowned man was alive, he would have put so much work into his land that springs would burst through and that he would have planted flowers along the cliff. At this point, we notice the contrast beteen the villagers and the drowned man. The drowned man brings much color and liveliness to the grey town of the villagers. The drowned man also brings the thought of springs and flowers to the village. As the woman began to prepare his funeral, they went to go get flowers from neighboring villages. They then told the other women about the drowned man and they too followed the villagers to bring flowers t the funeral. After the other women seen the drowned man, they also startede to admire him and went to seek more and more flowers. The flowers symbolize the ability of someone who’s great to seek out others to do something great. They also symbolize love and respect to those who once lived. In Conclusion, the author used three literary devices to explain and bring out hidden messages of the story to grasp the reader’s attention. This is a great way to keep readers interested in the sto ry’s theme/central message. At this point, we now know that Marquez likes for the reader to dig deep within to understand the essential thought of the story. He used a drowned man to bring out the greatness of a whole village and to change their whole aspect of life within their own village.

Expansion of ideas – No Pains, No Gains No Pains, No Gains We cannot achieve real success in any field without great efffors and plenty of sacrifice. No pain, no gains is very true in case of education. Those who aspire to reach the top of the academic ladder must work very hard. Scholars are not born scholars but made with hard work and perseverance. What a student needs the most is concentration and perseverance. We must always imbibe into us the three D's – Devotion, Dedication and Determination. These three D's have help cricketers, painters, writers, actors,  scholars, dramatists and world leaders. These three D's will help us to  succeed in our  life. ————————————————- ————————————————- No Pain, No Gain Families everywhere deal with great challenges. With each obstacle they face generally the outcome will make each individual a little bit stronger. With these experiences our perspective in life changes and we become more knowledgeable. â€Å"Girl† and â€Å"Tiger Mending† are two stories that I believe reflect this in two very different ways.Jamaica Kincaid’s â€Å"Girl† is a story about reflection. It is about a girl reflecting back upon the past. Maybe she just lost her mother or maybe she is grown and finally realizes why her mother told her all of these things. At the time, I’m sure she thought her mother was always on her and barking orders at her. She grew up in a different era. Times were different obviously then based on the way they washed their clothes. â€Å"Wash the white clothes on Monday and put them on the stone heap,† and â€Å"soak your little clothes right after you take them off. All of the things the mother said were to mold her daughter into a good stron g woman. The reference the mother makes to the daughter on not becoming a slut is kind of odd and disturbing. â€Å"On Sundays try to walk like a lady and not like the slut you are so bent on becoming,† and â€Å"this is how to behave in the presence of men who don’t know you very well, and this way they won’t recognize immediately the slut I have warned you against becoming. † This maybe the mother’s way of reverse psychology. By putting hese thoughts and references in the girl’s head, she will think twice about things she does. The girl will not want to give the wrong impression and will strive to rise above her mother’s expectations. This story refers to growth and even though it seems to be somewhat harsh, the mother is really striving for a smart productive daughter. A daughter she is proud to have raised and one who will also set a good example for her own children. Aimee Bender’s â€Å"Tiger Mending† is a story ab out change and growth. This story is about two sisters who have lost their parents and†¦ [continues]

Nuclear Fission Versus Nuclear Fusion

Nuclear Fission Versus Nuclear Fusion Nuclear fission and nuclear fusion both are nuclear phenomena that release large amounts  of energy, but they are different processes which yield different products. Learn what nuclear fission and nuclear fusion are and how you can tell them apart. Nuclear Fission Nuclear fission takes place when an  atoms nucleus splits into two or more smaller nuclei. These smaller nuclei are called fission products. Particles (e.g., neutrons, photons, alpha particles) usually are released, too. This is  an exothermic process releasing the kinetic energy of the fission products and energy in the form of gamma radiation. The reason energy is released is because the fission products are more stable (less energetic) than the parent nucleus. Fission may be considered a form of element transmutation since changing the number of protons of an element essentially changes the element from one into another. Nuclear fission may occur naturally, as in the decay of radioactive isotopes, or it can be forced to occur in a reactor or weapon. Nuclear Fission Example: 23592U 10n → 9038Sr 14354Xe 310n Nuclear Fusion Nuclear fusion is a process in which atomic nuclei are fused together to form heavier nuclei. Extremely high temperatures (on the order of 1.5 x 107 °C) can force nuclei together so the strong nuclear force can bond them. Large amounts of energy are released when fusion occurs. It may seem counterintuitive that energy is released both when atoms split and when they merge. The reason energy is released from fusion is that the two atoms have more energy than a single atom. A lot of energy is required to force protons close enough together to overcome the repulsion between them, but at some point, the strong force that binds them overcomes the electrical repulsion. When the nuclei are merged, the excess energy is released. Like fission, nuclear fusion can also transmute one element into another. For example, hydrogen nuclei fuse in stars to form the element helium. Fusion is also used to force together atomic nuclei to form the newest elements on the periodic table. While fusion occurs in nature, its in stars, not on Earth. Fusion on Earth only occurs in labs and weapons. Nuclear Fusion Examples The reactions which take place in the sun provide an example of nuclear fusion: 11H 21H → 32He 32He 32He → 42He 211H 11H 11H → 21H 01ÃŽ ² Distinguishing Between Fission and Fusion Both fission and fusion release enormous amounts of energy. Both fission and fusion reactions can occur  in nuclear bombs. So, how can you tell fission and fusion apart? Fission breaks atomic nuclei into smaller pieces. The starting elements have a higher atomic number than that of the fission products. For example, uranium can fission to yield strontium and krypton.Fusion joins atomic nuclei together. The element formed has more neutrons or more protons than that of the starting material. For example, hydrogen and hydrogen can fuse to form helium.Fission occurs naturally on Earth. An example is the spontaneous fission of uranium, which only happens if enough uranium is present in a small enough volume (rarely). Fusion, on the other hand, does not occur naturally on Earth. Fusion occurs in stars.

Antecedents and Pronouns in the French Grammar Glossary

Antecedents and Pronouns in the French Grammar Glossary An antecedent is the previously mentioned or implied word, phrase, or clause that a pronoun replaces.  The pronoun typically agrees with the antecedent in gender, number, and/or grammatical function. Pronouns Agree With Their Antecedents Pronouns are words that stand in for nouns.  There are many different kinds of pronouns, but they can be divided into two main categories: personal (je, tu, il, nous, vous, ils), which changes according to the grammatical person it represents; and impersonal (adverbial, demonstrative, indefinite demonstrative, indefinites, interrogatives, negatives, possessives, relatives and indefinite relatives). The latter range from the adverbial y and en to the demonstrative celui, celle, ceux, celles and the popular relative pronoun  (qui, que, lequel, dont, and oà º), which links a dependent clause to a main clause and may replace a subject, direct object, indirect object or preposition. Emerging Technology 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Emerging Technology 2 - Essay Example There are basically two different ways in which green computing can be looked at. One of these is by considering the hardware that is being used in the processes. The other is by considering the software. Hardware in this case will mostly look at such things as the efficiency of data processing and the design of data centers. Software considers such aspects as cloud computing and algorithm tweaks that minimize power consumption improving efficiency (Harris 2008 23). Hardware One of the more recent technologies in this space is that of cloud computing. This allows large companies to basically distribute the costs of handling their data to a single company. This reduces the amount of data centers required to hold the numerous amounts of data. They also provide companies with the opportunity to consolidate their resources and hence minimize power usage and increase efficiency. One concern though that has been raised by this technology is that of the security of the data. This is from wh ere there is increased risk of the transfer of secure data from the companies to the data centers. There is the virtualization of both software and hardware. A good example is the running of two or more logical computers from a single set of hardware. This leads to the consolidation of resources that increases the efficiencies of running computer systems (Soomro & Sarwar 2012 539). Software One of the software green computing technologies that is begin applied is that of the utilization of green scheduling techniques and green compilers. Green compilers work through various processes to analyze the programs that a software is running on and then to reshape the source code of the software. They reshape the software by applying certain green aspects. A green scheduler on the hand works on how to allocate the resources to a program and how well to utilize these resources so as to make it more efficient. The concerns that are raised with these two modes of software engineering are that they require a balance between efficiency and effectiveness of the machine (Fakha, Javed, Rasool, Malik & Zulfiqar 2012). Conclusion There have been great improvements in the making of green computing systems. The current improvements are limited by the available hardware at the moment. It has been predicted that we are a few years away from deriving the maximum efficiency out of silicon based chips. A better scheduler is also required to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the various green compliers currently available. Intelligent systems Abstract Intelligent systems are commonly used to refer to systems with artificial intelligence. It is difficult to generally classify these but they can be broadly classed as diagnostic, knowledge and expert. All these different categories apply three basic principles that have their various limitations. The major limitation is in the replication of human knowledge. This is a limitation that at present has greatly limited the developmen t of artificial intelligent systems. Introduction There has been a contention with how to think about intelligent systems with their being a variety of definitions. The one that may be used to explain an intelligent system may be that it is â€Å"
